Q: How is Secure Copy licensed?  
A: Secure Copy is licensed by the total number of source and destination servers.  

Example 1:
I am replacing 1 old file server with 1 new one using Secure Copy to copy the data.  This requires 2 licenses.  

Example 2:
I am consolidating 10 old file servers onto 1 new NAS server.  This requires 11 licenses.  

Example 3:
I run a weekly incremental copy from a remote site onto my headquarters file server using Secure Copy.  This requires 2 licenses.

Q: Do I need a license for every machine on my network?  
A: You need a license for every source and every destination machine involved in Secure Copy operations.  

Q: What user license quantities are available?  
A: At the time of writing, licenses can be bought in packs of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 25, or are available under an Open License for quantities above 50.  

Q: Why do you sell a 1-server license when I need a license for each source and destination?  
A: The 1-server license is for addition to existing Secure Copy licenses.  

Example:
An organisation already owns 5 Secure Copy licenses for copying between 4 source servers and 1 destination.  They now want to add an extra source server, so they only require 1 additional license.  

Q: Can I move licenses from one server to another?  
A: No.  Secure Copy licenses can only be used with the servers they are purchased for.  

Q: What happens if I exceed my license count?  
A: Secure Copy will not run jobs when the number of servers you have created jobs for exceeds the number of licenses available.  

Q: Is an evaluation license available?  What restrictions does it have?  
A: Yes, a 30-day evaluation license is available from www.scriptlogic.com.  It will only copy data between up to 4 servers, and will only copy up to 2500 files and folders.  

Q: Can I extend my evaluation?  
A: You can request an extension for an evaluation license at www.scriptlogic.com.  

Q: How do I find out how many licenses I have installed?
A: In Secure Copy, click on “Help” and then “About”.  

Q: How do I find out how many licenses I’ve used?  
A: You will be notified when you try to run a job and there are more servers in the job list than you have licenses available.  

Q: How do I install Secure Copy on multiple workstations?  
A: We recommend that Secure Copy is installed onto either the source or destination server, not a separate workstation.
