FAQQ: What Operating Systems are supported?
A: Secure Copy supports NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 6a), Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 Server for source and/or destination servers.
Q: Does Secure Copy require a software agent?
A: No. Secure Copy only needs to be installed onto one of the source or destination servers. For maximum performance we recommend that Secure Copy is installed on the destination server.
Q: Secure Copy has “Administrator Override” – What is that?
A: Secure Copy’s Administrator Override feature allows Secure Copy to access files even the Administrator does not have permissions to ensuring a complete copy of all files selected.
Q: Doesn’t “Administrator Override” compromise the Windows security model?
A: No. Secure Copy does not do anything that the Administrator running Secure Copy does not have permission to do. To overcome “Access Denied” errors the Administrator usually has to take ownership on the problem file(s). Secure Copy eliminates this process, removing the need for manual intervention.
Q: Besides files and folders, what else does Secure Copy migrate?
A: Secure Copy migrates all related NTFS permissions, Shares and Share permissions, File Attributes, Compression Attributes, as well as Users and Groups local to the source server.
Q: How are local users and groups migrated from NT 4.0 to Active Directory?
A: There are 3 options for migrating local groups (see picture on left). When migrating a server into AD, Secure Copy creates domain local groups in Active Directory with the same name as the local group on the source, or with a suffix/prefix.
