IT adminstrators face many significant challenges: IT budgets are flat or growing slowly, environments are more complex and the demands of users continue to escalate.

IT administrators are accountable for identifying IT assets that are deployed across the network and tying those assets back to purchase details and license agreements.

Software license purchases and their maintenance costs represent a significant percentage of annual IT budgets.  In addition, the chance of a company being audited for software license compliance increases every year.  Organisations need an easy way to compare entitlements to usage to eliminate overspending and help ensure they are in compliance with their license agreements.

Asset Manager

Asset Manager is a complete, fast and cost-effective solution for effectively managing software and hardware assets.

Asset Manager helps implement IT asset management best practices.

With Asset Manager, you can discover and track hardware & software inventory and centrally track and manage the IT contracts and license agreements so that the automated usage reports can be easily correlated to actual purchase costs and legal responsibilities.

When managing software licenses, Asset Manager goes beyond simply scanning and identifying software.  It tracks software usage through metering and quickly identifies if software is being underutilised, sitting idle or if the appropriate number of licenses have not been purchased.

Software Asset Management

Intelligent Software Recognition

Asset Manager allows you to successfully identify and categorize more than 85% of all software found without any manual intervention.  The Software Pattern Identification Database (SPID) includes more than 200,000 software packages, including bundles, so that you can even differentiate between editions of common software.

Submit Software for Identification

If your software isn’t in the SPID database already, you can upload the Software DNA pattern to us, and we’ll identify it and add it to the next Asset Manager update.  This can even be set to happen automatically, keeping you on top of new software coming into your network.

License Management

Import software license agreements into Asset Manager and link them with the applications that are installed.  Never miss renewals or true-ups with alerting on key contract dates.  Ensure all product use rights are understood including upgrade and downgrade rights and second-use rights.  Provides complete visibility into your licensing positions to ensure optimal use of licenses.

Passive Software Metering

Don’t buy more software when you already have an unused copy on your network.   Asset Manager Passive metering can track when and how often software is used.  Put unused software where it’s needed and even see what parts of a bundle are being used so you can adjust your licensing accordingly.

Active Software Metering

If you have software that has concurrent licensing, you can use Asset Manager active metering to ensure you meet that license agreement.  Have licenses for 100 copies? Active metering will let 100 run, but will stop the 101st copy in its tracks.

New Software Alerts

Report and alert on new applications that have been added to your network and prevent unwanted software from being run.  Maintain control over the applications that are installed in your environment to help eliminate the security risks and costs associated with maintaining unapproved applications.

Complete Compliance Reporting

Asset Manager has over 120 pre-defined reports including installed software, license compliance, usage reporting and more.  If there are questions about the software in your network, Asset Manager has a report with the answer.

Block Unapproved Applications

Asset Manager can report and alert on new applications that have been added to your network and prevent unwanted software from being run.  Maintain control over the applications that are installed in your environment to help eliminate the security risks and costs associated with maintaining unapproved applications.

IT Asset Management

Software Inventory

With Asset Manager you can discover and identify the software installed on your network and reconcile it against what has been purchased and what is actually in use.  Asset Manager provides the information needed to make informed business decisions on software assets.

Hardware Inventory

With Asset Manager you can discover and track hardware details on Windows and Mac OS desktops, servers and all IT assets including mobile devices, printers and routers/switches.  Manage assets throughout their lifecycle by reporting and alerting on assets that need to be replaced, upgraded or nearing the end of their warranty or lease periods.

Contract/Vendor Management

Track Agreements and Contracts

AManage purchasing agreements, leasing agreements and framework agreements.  Import contracts from other systems and attach the contract forms and invoices.  The entire lifecycle for any type of IT contract or business agreement is streamlined, from initial negotiation to creation, managing, searching, tracking and reporting.

Track Important Contract Dates

You can associate contracts with their related hardware and software assets and set up automated alerts for key contract dates.  Important dates from all related contracts are displayed in a graphical timeline.  You can even associate related contracts with one another and see them in a unique graphical relationship.

Store Vendor Data

Track and maintain all the data on your vendors.  Track all meeting records and agreements, contact information and purchase history.  Get the most out of your vendor relationships by enforcing consistent risk management policies and vendor assessment processes.

Software Management in Virtual Environments

VMware ESX Connector

The Asset Manager VMware ESX Connector is a service that communicates directly with VMware’s API via ESX/ESXi Server or vCenter.  Asset Manager displays the relationship between the application running on a virtual machine and the physical host on which the VM is running.

Citrix Connector

Ensuring license compliance and preventing over-licensing in Citrix environments is challenging because many vendors use a Client Application Licensing Model in virtual environments.  The Asset Manager Citrix Connector tracks the relationships between which user is starting up which published application or published desktop and who has the rights to start each Citrix application.

Second-Use License Tracking

Certain vendors have second-use right policies; when accessing a virtual application and the application is also installed locally on the computer, you only need one license.  Asset Manager automatically identifies applications that have second use rights, ensuring license counts are managed properly in virtual environments.

Technology Integration

SCCM Integration

An optional module is available to collect the necessary asset information directly from the SMS / SCCM database, eliminating the need to install Asset Manager agents on the desktop.  Use the existing inventory and usage data to discover, identify, manage and track IT assets.

Active Directory Integration

Use OU, Group, and Site information in compliance reporting.  Out of 100 licenses, the Pittsburgh office may be assigned 10 licenses of Photoshop but are using 18.  Asset Manager can help you identify this overage, where standard compliance reports wouldn’t.
